Nick,

There are a number of individuals/companies that have millions in funding and go bankrupt or don't make any revenue at all. I started out a few years ago on my sisters couch and have built a 6 figure business from zero funding (and a lot of credit card debt and student loans at that).

It doesn't matter what you start with, it matters what you build from then on out. I believe anyone can make it whether they have a financial safety net or not... just depends what you create with what you have my friend. Thanks for your comment

Hi Nick,

I think that is actually a big misconception. My grandpa (which is who he is referring to) is a successful entrepreneur in a variety of fields. And he is an incredible inspiration. However, that is simply not true with the "vast financial safety net" as the money used to fund my company came from me working plus savings which I earned (or came from events such as my Bar Mitzvah when I was 13, which let me tell you is know HUGE amount, haha).

My grandpa (or family) didn't fun any part of my business. He is a "do it yourself" type of guy and helps with advice as opposed to dollars. In fact, I was almost out of money in November 2008. I went to him to see if he could help and he said "figure it out" (more lovingly than that) but it was an incredible lesson and made my turn a profit quicker. However, I would argue having his advice has been a great advantage and he is someone I look up to daily.

Hope that helps clear it up and you can email me at David@DSGagency.com or hop on the phone with me for a few minutes if you want to discuss.

It's easy to be "fearless" if Siteman is your middle name and you have a vast financial safety net. Suffice to say, DSG did and does not have to overcome the average person's financial roadblocks to starting a business.

Dan,

You are constantly giving great content on Twitter for sure (believe me, I'm watching your stuff :)

I don't think it is hard to get to where you want to be as long as you have a game plan, and are consistent with taking action and producing value. When you look at the rest of the successful biz guys out there who are blowing up online right now... they all did the same thing, just in their own way.

Fill a void, be consistent, and connect with your audience and over time your number will be called and all you have to do is show up.

Thanks for your comment my friend!

Dan - Spoiler alert! You will totally rock it with content, Dan. I definitely have faith.

Lewis - Thanks for having me on. It was a blast and even if it inspires just one person, I'm excited.

Lewis, can't believe you spoiled it! LOL Hilarious. Great interview guys. Nice for David to spill some numbers like 45k subscribers, page views, traffic, etc. Always interesting to get some useful benchmarks :)

FYI, I counted Chris Brogan's posts today. 61 posts since Feb 1st, 100 since Jan 1. The guy is a content creating machine!

I spent nearly a full year exclusively using Twitter as the format as it worked for me. Now it is time for me document everything I learned from guys like Sean, you, David, etc :) Now it is time to get blogging (creating something with a shelf life) but I've dropped the ball BIG TIME on content creation since I got it up in early Feb. Thanks for reminding me re: consistency.

That will be addressed here shortly on the blog. Hold me accountable guys :)

Keep hustling. Both of ya'll. Love the work ya'll are doing.

Dan Ross
@BetterBizIdeas
